Hike of Faith 2008

Below is a message from David about this years first Backpacking trip.  I highly recommend it.  It has been a worthwhile experience every year.  I made a movie about last years trip, check it out.

Grace and peace to all,

It is the season for an excursion into the wilderness.  We are planning
a ‘Hike of Faith’ for the last weekend in May to the Red River Gorge.
Details are listed after the jump.  Please extend this invitation to those who

You are invited to the third annual men’s hike of faith.  This year we
are planning on going to red river gorge. 

Purpose:
The objective of this trip is to enjoy God’s creation, fellowship
together on the hike, and to discuss what God is doing in our lives.

Tentative Plan:
May 30th
6:00PM - Meet at Kenwood Baptist
6:30PM - Drive to Red River Gorge (Drop off vehicle near Suspension
Bridge, Head to Parking near Ranger Station)
9:00PM - Start Hike to Indian Staircase
10:30-11:00PM - Arrive at Camp (Near Indian Staircase)

May 31st
7:00-8:00AM - Eat Breakfast
8:00-11:00AM - Explore Area (no packs), Tear Down Camp
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM - Hike to Cloudsplitter (Eat Lunch)
1:00 PM - 2:30 PM - Hike to Vehicles (Near Suspension Bridge)
2:30 PM - 5:00 PM - Explore across Suspension Bridge - Pinch em Tight
(no packs)
5:00 PM - 5:30 PM - Drive to Parking Near Raven’s Rock
5:30 PM - Start Hike to Raven’s Rock (cross Red River - bring sandals or
try crossing on rocks)
7:00 PM - Arrive at Raven’s Rock
8:00 PM - Dinner

June 1st
7:00 AM - 8:00 AM - Breakfast
8:00 AM - 9:00 AM - Pack up Camp
9:00 AM - Start Hike to Vehicles
10:30 AM - Arrive at Vehicles
10:30 - 11:00 AM - Round up Vehicles
11:00 AM - Start Trip Back
12:00 PM - Stop for Lunch
2:30 PM - Arrive at Kenwood

*This is a tentative schedule things may take twice as long but this is
just meant to give you a general idea of the plan.

Logistics:
1. David Palmer reserved one of the van’s from the church and we
will need additional vehicles as we find out the exact number of guys
coming so let us know if you are willing to drive.
2. Everyone needs to bring:
a. Flashlight (w/ extra batteries)
b. Sleeping bag.
c. Backpack
d. Tent (organize with others - not everyone needs a tent)
e. Water (number of bottles you drink)
f. Food
i. Dinner (Friday night to be ate in van, on trail)
ii. Breakfast (Saturday - ate at camp)
iii. Lunch (Saturday - ate at cloudsplitter)
iv. Dinner (Saturday - ate at camp)
v. Breakfast (Sunday - ate at Camp)
g. Money - Lunch on Ride Home Sunday
3. If you need anything email David Palmer or Jeff Kirsch we can
find some supplies. (Jeff has extra back packs, tents, sleeping bags)
